Another way that I have found incredibly helpful to heal my inner child, or the parts of me that have been hurt is quite simple and effective. It is called a heart meditation. If you have a favorite pillow or stuffed animal nearby, it can be helpful.
Sit in a comfortable position in a place where you feel safe and that is relatively quiet.
Close your eyes.
See the part of you that is hurt or suffering in your mind’s eye.
Place that part of you inside of a golden bubble about a foot in front of your heart.
See the bubble fill with golden light and love, or anything else you desire for this hurting person.
If you’re having a hard time seeing light and love, which can be a challenge when triggered, then you can remember and feel into a memory that invokes love to help fill the bubble.
Another alternative at this point is to imagine the pillow (or stuffed animal) represents the part of you that is hurt. Hold the pillow to your chest, hugging it closely. Tell yourself as the pillow, the things that you need to hear. For instance, “I know that I was not there for you when … happened. I know that I did not protect you and take care of you the way that you needed. I am here for you now. I love you. Thank you for understanding why I could not do this before now.”
See that part of you now smiling and happy, do this regardless of which path you used, above. Then see that person rise up to the Heaven’s or reintegrate back into yourself. I often see that part of me reintegrate into my heart.
In doing this process even one time, you are giving yourself the gift of self-love. You are giving yourself the things that someone either withheld from you or took from you.
