What Thoughts Do We Feed?

Easter heralds the season of renewal, rebirth and resurrection. One of the most influential things we can do to renew our lives for the better is to pay attention to what we are thinking and change our thoughts, if needed.

Where you invest your love, you invest your life. ~ Mumford & Sons, “Awake My Soul”

Thoughts are like sound tracks that play through our minds. Many times our thoughts are things that others have told us early in our lives that we believed. We carry those thoughts forward in our lives. Sometimes this helps us. Often times it does not support who we want to be nor how we see ourselves. The more energy, focus, emotion and attention we give to our thoughts, the more their arc of influence grows. This is important as our thoughts lead to our behaviors and actions. Our actions create our daily lives.

Another way to view this is that our minds are gardens. The thoughts we plant, water and pay attention to are the ones that grow and sprout, flower and eventually spread more seeds. It is important to hear the things we are telling ourselves. If this is an unwanted thought, do we really want to continue to allow it to grow and eventually “go to seed” and spread its influence further and further? On the other hand, what thoughts support us in where we want to be and go in life? The plants that we feed and water through our attention and focus are the ones that grow the most.

Recent unwanted things on my mind or “weeds to pull”:

  • “I am fat.” Guess who gained weight this month? 😉
  • “I am not worthy of …. (love, affection, attention, wealth, etc).”
  • “I am too much…I need too much…I am annoying…”
  • “I can’t sleep…sleep is so difficult for me…” Guess who was becoming an insomniac?
  • “I don’t have enough energy.” Guess who felt like she had lead in her shoes all day?

The things I say to myself when I hear the above thoughts or “planting fruit bearing plants”:

  • “My body supports me every day.”
  • “I have all the energy and resources I need.”
  • “My words & actions add value to the lives of others. By being me, I support others.”
  • “I get the sleep I need tonight and every night.”
  • “I am an author whose arc of influence expands daily.”

The things we can do when we have unwanted thoughts:

  • Acknowledge the thoughts, then focus on the love within the heart (even if it just feels like a sliver at first).
  • Imagine “dragging and dropping” the thoughts from the mind and into the heart.
  • Write a new dialogue, similar to the ones above that move in the direction of where we want to go.

For us to change our lives, it is important to pay attention to the things we are telling ourselves. The thoughts we have today are the seeds of our tomorrows. The lives we live today are the products of our thoughts from yesterdays. What do we want to plant today?

May we all be free of the weeds in our minds. May we instead plant and grow the seeds that support us the most.

Asking for What You Desire

Affirmations are instructions for what you want to bring into your life.

Our thoughts affirm to The Universe and The Creator what we want. We are magnets and what we think and feel brings to us all that we receive. It can be hard to accept this responsibility for one’s thoughts.

What are we affirming in our lives today? In other words, what thoughts do you have that are creating what you’re receiving in your life?

Focused intent on what we want brings us our desires.

Scattered, foggy and wishy-washy thinking brings us just that.

Focus. Redirect. Love from the heart. This is where your life can have a new start…

Love at The Core & Bridges NaPoWriMo13

Bridges are lifelines; a connection.
They are gateways to new worlds;
a transition.

Bridges are filled with secret mysteries.
They both frighten and fascinate me.
Travelers on them, travel with vulnerability.

Bridges are communication between lands.
Yet so often we take them for granted.
Until the connection is broken or blocked.

As I walked the beach this week,
I marveled more than my usual
at the beauty of a local bridge.

Even bridges need support,
the pilings whisper
as I take their picture.

Yet so often travelers overlook
the support from below.
Like the bridge, we are fully supported.

The key we so often miss,
is the heart at the core, our nucleus.
We push, when all we need to do is exist
within this nucleus.

When we can be with the purity
at the center, it changes the nature
of the electron field.

We draw to ourselves based on
what we allow at the core.
Our actions, when driven from here
keep the motor moving.

Go now and live in your own Heart’s center.
There you will find all answers.
Cleanse your magnet, attracting more others
Who speak your language, fluently.

It’s okay to ask for help when you need it.
Each piling relies on the others to do its job.
Interdependence helps win this game called life.

Be connected in Love, through your heart.
Not your mind, this is the most important part.
Love for Love’s sake.

It is here where you will find your wholeness
always existed.

My inner voices were fighting – Here’s how I Found Peace.

A post I wrote has been accepted by Elephant Journal. Please follow the link below to read it all. Shares are highly appreciated & encouraged 😉

On an ordinary day, waiting for a phone call from a good friend, I noticed an inner battle start to brew.

Stepping back further into observation mode, I noticed a few peculiar inner voices arise. On one side, there was a bratty little voice. She was entitled. She wanted things fixed and done immediately. On the other side, there was a voice I later identified as my martyr. She told me, “You get what you get and you can’t feel upset.”

Choosing Love in the Face of Everything NaPoWriMo11

Turning corners left then right,
Over and over again,
Moving further towards the within.

Seeing inner conflicts as an observer
Warring parties voice their woes,
They become friends (for now) no longer foes.

In the presence of love, I find myself enveloped.
It is here I find who I am,
Who I was all along.

Words I have spoken,
knowing only a sliver of their truth:
I am that I am Love. I am what I am.

Yet on this day, I feel it on all levels.
I see, I can feel another Universal truth:
We are all here to choose Love
Over and over again.

What have we got to lose?

In the face of all else…
The choice is always ours if we choose.
To Love is to be Love.

It all begins within.
To seek it without this simple foundation
Leaves us depleted.

When we experience the Love that
Is us, from the within
We see ourselves for the truth that we are.

It is Nirvana. It is Bliss. It is Heaven on Earth.

Yet in chasing, grasping and looting
our coffers, seeking fulfillment in things or in others,
We overlook the details of fineness.

The Love we seek is within Us.
It has been there the whole time.

To find it, we must remove the layers
Of pain that block us, that keep us in
Our own little worlds of suffering.

To Love thyself is to know thyself.
Come everyone, It is Time.
There is no need to hide.

Love, Mom NaPoWriMo10

To my daughter,

I am sorry that you are sad.

I am sorry that you are angry.

I am sorry that you feel unloved.

I know how all of this feels and hurts.

Know I am doing the very best I can do to help you.

Sometimes even the best mom’s don’t have all the answers.

I am doing the best I can do to be the very best mom I can be for you.

Please know I am healing these things for myself, too.

Love,

Mom

There are things …. NaPoWriMo9

There are things about me…

  • That I want to believe
  • That I want to bury
  • That I want to show everyone
  • That I only want to take with me to hell or heaven
  • That I have known since I was eleven
  • That I don’t want to tell anyone
  • That make people grin from ear to ear
  • That make even me cringe in fear
  • That anyone can see
  • That I keep hidden from even me
  • That I keep in special compartments marked “only for special occasions”
  • That I wish you would see
  • That I just can’t keep hidden … no matter how hard I try
  • That would make the world cry
  • That can make everyone sing
  • That I am myself unwrapping

There are things about me….

now what about you?

Personification of Inner Realms NaPoWriMo8

There are aspects within dying to emerge.

Hidden, cutoff aspects who beg with us to merge.

They knock, they yell, they keep us awake and thinking, or dreaming.

They more seek our attention,

Less our submission.

They just want their voices to be heard.

Active Imagination, almost like a waking dream,

Allows us to bring the missing pieces forward.

The personification of a missing voice

for a conversation:

Giving a voice & an audience

To the previously voiceless.

What parts of ourselves have we been ignoring?

Whose voices cry out to be heard?

Sitting with the missing pieces and

Creating a dialogue, to get to know the

Missing pieces within, the ones who

Ache to be heard, to belong and

Most important of all:  to be loved

By each of us for our own self.

No one else can do this work for us…

The Eye of the Calm within The Storm NaPoWriMo6

The tempest unfurls her fury,

Flinging branches like match sticks.

Roofs sent across streets.

Menacing clouds fill the skyline.

Yet at the center all is calm.

The golden lines spread out

Rise up and back down; a torus

Is formed. Frictionless energy.

The storm cuts a path through the wood

While the mighty oak, a symbol of strength

Becomes uprooted in gusty winds.

Yet the sapling bends,

Its greenwood helps it survive.

While it is thrashed to and fro,

It knows this helps its strength to grow.

Just when it feels ready to break

The winds and clouds dissipate.

Golden rays of sunlight stream down

And warm the air all around

While tattered leaves bask in their golden glow,

Enjoying the break before it is time again

to dance to and fro.
