there is an anchor
a tether that keeps us
bound to this existence
while preventing us
from completely floating
into the ethers

infinitely

at times the cord
can seem restrictive
yet most often it is permissive
excessively at times giving us
too much slack & we lose track

of who, what & why
tuning back into our spine
the soles (souls) of our feet
brings us back in line

every single time

before the focus slips
and the slack is given again
ad nauseum

we can choose at any moment
to open into the present of the presence
the gift that is ours for the taking

the present is
something i can fight tooth & nail
having, from a young age, perceived
that the present is most dangerous
for to be most present is also to feel the mostest

yet this narrow sliver of time & space
is also where we each have the utmost power
where the quill is drawn to the paper

yet to endeavor to remain tethered to this moment
of the ink as it meets the page
can be a continuous challenge
being lit into our emotions, our past, our futures
yet, each of us is absolutely worth the work of being

If you think you are enlightened, go and spend a week with your family.
