life interrupted within hours of pouring rains
floods flashed rapidly building
rivers crashed
homes, levies, lives
protective structures
bridges absolutely destroyed
1000 yr flooding in mountainous environs
creating many islands
destroyed homes
destroyed dreams
many lives lost – many still missing
survivors stranded
on mountainous islands
some only reachable by mules, accustomed to rugged terrains
others receiving airdropped supplies by osprey, black hawks or
civilian aircraft
daily, i send love to this region
weekly, i send donations in various forms
it’s heartbreaking to have witnessed
the effects of such a storm
knowing the resilient (maybe even stubborn) spirit of these mountainous people
for it also runs in my own blood
i have full confidence the rebuild has just begun
& many parts will return more beautiful
while some areas will likely only bear the scars
& memories of what was ~ to never be again
