born in Boston
raised in Richmond
died in Baltimore

grief the theme tackled in Lenore
many know about The Raven
who loves to utter “nevermore”

for anyone who wants to learn more
or see how many Poe “easter eggs”
one can discover within the folds of the
plot unfolding

high recommendations for the recently released
Netflix Series, “The Fall of the House of Usher”
that weaves modern day news & issues into strong themes from EAP

The 3rd edition in the “October House” series
that began with “The Haunting of Hill House,”
& later followed by “Bly Manor”
those familiar with the first two will recognize
many of the actors

this one holds a light to the first
& is brilliant in its own way
in my humble opinion, at least, anyway

  1. Poe and Lovecraft are the two essential horror writers in American history, IMO. They laid the groundwork for later writers. I did a search on Poe and discovered that he was a champion swimmer?

    1. Yes! According to PBS, he was also known for running & boxing! The same story mentions him swimming “a marathon” across the James River in Richmond.

Also, I didn’t know, until last night, that he even wrote one novel called, “The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket.” This novel, about seafaring woes and which received a lot of criticism, inspired Melville!
