while new beneficial bacterial strains can be introduced
they can only remain when fed the right foods
to encourage new arrivals to stay, or to go slow &
to further promote diversity within the gut flora
the challenge is to consume 20-30 various
plants, nuts or seeds per week, combined

fibers & even fatty acids feed the itty bitty beneficial microbes
who then support digestion, absorption, elimination &
even utilization of the foods we eat
Dr. William Davis states that enough l. reuteri can even support sleep!

greater diversity within the microbiota may even be linked with health & longevity as such, Dr. Tim Spector, microbiome researcher & expert,
strongly recommends various nuts & seeds as an easy way to
meet the 20-30 plant varieties per week

his challenge has encouraged my searching up a widening arc of
relatively inexpensive foods to purchase & cook, with some to ferment
& will lead to a busy (and hopefully fun) weekend of creating
an apothecary-style of fermented foods

beets, as well as cabbage & carrots
perhaps even roasting some sunchokes
maybe i will take some time to see if i can find
my grandmother’s recipe for pickled watermelon rind
{chef’s kiss}

looking forward to feeding my newfound friends
& inviting others to the party through our mutual friends:
Romanian & Greek yogurts, kimchi, sauerkraut,
apple cider vinegar as well as
kefir both milk- & water-based

in the past few days of consuming the L. reuteri,
i continue to consume different meats & cheeses
plus some sweets
yet the desire for a cornucopia of plants has greatly increased

for after all, we are the gut bacteria we feed
more so than we are what we eat
