the weather on the coast
in late october can host
3 seasons in a single day
frigid fall mornings reluctantly give way
to spring then summer by mid-day

as the sun moves through the cloudless sky
it warms the earth & marsh grasses while
coastal breezes carry the delicate scent
of the bell-shaped flowers from the elaeagnus
sadly, a massive & invasive species in this region

the fall sun magnifies the blue hue of the juniper berries
the call of the gulls & osprey as they play in the rising vents of air along the bay
the way the sun reflects & creates dancing silvery & gold diamonds
from the jagged waters is mesmerizing

the crows caw at our approach
at one point we observed some of them
participating with at least one pigeon
in a starling murmuration
it appeared to be a dance of varying species
& not one of a predator-prey drive
maybe that was just wishful thinking …

for forty lovely minutes we took a break from
the busyness of our days
taking in the sights, sounds & beauty of this bay
