Unfiltered from the heart

to walk this path is to burn
as the rope slides between
clenched hands
holding the lines
pulling in opposite directions
yet their fate each the same
to be consumed in fires
for the living to move forward
or dry out when we get stuck
holding onto what no longer serves

to walk this path is to burn
giving it all the best
in any given moment
sending prayers for all
to step forward
into the greatest parts within
in spite of all circumstances
even those beyond our choosing
especially when it feels all hope is lost

to walk this path is to burn
to burn away the mantles of decay
that trap us in less than
so that we may
burn brightly
& light the way
for those who are struggling
where we once stood stuck
in the mire & muck

to walk this path is to burn
so that we may see where we
are brighter than we’d ever imagined
to do so is to burn with an ecstasy
that is beyond any mortal words emitted
by human mouths nor any
etched, sketched nor sculpted
with human hands

to walk this path is to burn
to be & live the best
to be authentic in all the ways
in which we possibly can
