the liminal spaces
can be a place of retreat
to recoup
until one remains too long
& it becomes a place of
imprisonment
stuck
the hours bled into days
the days into weeks
creeping, cutting creating
a heaving, heavy countenance where
the weeks swirled like leaves into eddies
pulling them back into pools of infinity
red
the bricks of baked clay
laid carefully
meant to lead the way
had become instead a keep
thoughts were permitted to leave
yet the circumstances were stuck
only to begin again the next week
repeat
the grooves within the ruts
well worn
my mind traced them each
forlorn
as if to follow their path
i’d find my way back
to the light
& fresh air
breathe
he said through the tube to me
5-5-5-2
5 seconds to inhale
5 to hold the breath in
5 to exhale
2 to pause before beginning again
cleansing the neurology
rinsing
repeatedly repeating
the unwinding
dismantling
the ruts & groves
with each iteration of the 5-5-5-2
a box-like breath
the ultimate keys to my escape
the combination lock
unstuck
